1967 Ford Thunderbird Tudor

--- SOLD ---

This web site contains some of the restoration pictures that we took while restoring our 1967 Thunderbird Tudor. The Thunderbird is for sale, but I am still working on it.

A little history of the Thunderbird as I understand it.

The gentleman who bought the Thunderbird new lived in Oregon. He had a minor accident and there was some damage done to the front end. Shortly after the wreck, he had a heart attack and was admitted to the hospital. On the way home from the hospital, be had another heart attack and never got to see his car. From there the car sat for a lot of years.

My son sent to Washington State to pick up an old Mustang that he was going to restore. Upon arrival in Washington State, he discovered the Mustang had a blown head gasket. The person who had the Mustang knew the person who owned the TBird. My son called me and from there I became the owner of this great old car. The car is now in the New Caney, TX area about 40 miles northeast of Houston.

Pictures

The following pictures show some of restoration of the TBird. I will be posting some more pictures in the following days.

There are three groups of pictures

1. Inside Restoration.
2. Heater and under hood restoration.
3. Pictures showing the car after the initial restoration was done.

This is still a project car. A lot has been done to it, but there is still a lot of things that can be done to make it like new.

Please contact me (Jerry)if you have additional questions. I have set up an email address for this car. It is tbird1967@lycos.com.

Some More Information

The body needs some more restoration. I have some amount of trim that should go on after the car is painted.

The TBird has a 390 cid motor, C6 transmission, power steering, power brakes, air conditioning, manual crank windows, manual door locks, power driver’s seat, manual passenger seat. It has a AM/FM radio that stopped working shortly after the car arrived in Houston.

This car is 41 years old, and there are general maintenance items that need to be done. I had the transmission serviced and the oil changed and discovered that a new exhaust manifold gasket needs to be installed as there is a small leak. I am working that problem now.

Things I have done

I have replaced the front brake calipers, pads and rear brake shoes. I had the exhaust resonators removed as they rust and serve no purpose. There are extra trim pieces and a tail light in the trunk. The tires were replaced before the car was driven from Washington, State, and probably have less than 5,000 miles on them. There is a new spare tire that has never been on the ground. The rubber drain hoses for the rear vent system behind the rear window have been replaced with PVC drains so they should never go bad. The light bulbs in the interior have been replaced. I try to keep the car waxed, and keep a car cover on it. The heater core was replaced with a 1968 heater core as there were no 1967 heater cores available when I needed one. The heater fan motor was replaced. You can see pictures of the old heater core and fan motor in the pictures on this web site. The drivers floor pan was replaced and new carpet pads installed. A molded to fit drop in carpet from a company on the east coast was installed. The front seat springs were rebuilt and the seats have had the apholstry replaced. The back seat is original.

I have had the transmission serviced and the oil changed, the rear end oil checked, and the tie rod and ball joints greased recently.

Manuals

The factory service manual and drivers manual as well as some other documentation will be included with the sale of the car.
